Wire & Cable Plant Demolition

Cable-Plant_featured

Site Overview

The former wire and cable plant was constructed in the early 1900s and consisted of mainly brick and steel-frame structures. Envirocon  demolished several dilapidated structures on the site and provided abatement, disposal, and recycling services. The site was located on a river waterfront in a small community with several sensitivities.

Project Highlights

  • Conducted interior abatement of piping, floor tiles, roofing, and miscellaneous asbestos-containing material (ACM) prior to demolition
  • Demolished 130,000 square feet of buildings, including brick and metal structures
  • Developed a comprehensive, Engineered Drop Plan to dismantle an 80-foot tall building close to an active commuter rail line
  • Recycled 1,660 tons of steel, reused inert fill from on-site locations, and transported 3,000 tons of ACM offsite

Value Delivered

Envirocon worked with the client, engineer, and community leaders to develop a project approach that mitigated impacts to the surrounding town and its residents. Our team used barges to mobilize large equipment and office trailers to the site and to ship scrap steel and materials offsite, successfully minimizing traffic impacts to the community. We completed all work on the project with zero safety or environmental incidents.
